Smith Gardens, the largest annual and perennial grower in the Pacific Northwest, has an exciting opportunity for a General Laborertojoin our team at our Bellingham, WA site.
Smith Gardens is a wholesale nursery company that is headquartered in Bellingham, Washington, and has been family owned for over 100 years with facilities in three states.
The Bellingham facility, established in 1901, is the original site of Smith Gardens. The site sits on 40 acres of greenhouse and outside growing area.
JOB FUNCTION:
The function of the position will vary depending on the department in which you work on any given day. Functions may include but are not limited to: Move flats of plants from greenhouse to green house, water plants as determined by Head Growers Specifications, transplant plants into larger pots, arranging flats onto racks as determined by orders, loading trucks, unloading trucks, selecting product for orders, labeling product, sowing, thinning, weeding, potting and other functions related to horticulture up keep.
- Constantly move, position or transport at least 20lbs.
- Frequently move up to 75lbs.
- Constantly move from and through out various areas of the farm
- Constantly position self to sow, thin, weed, transplant, move, water, pot, ship, load or
remain in same position for long periods of time. - Constantly work in outdoor weather and being exposed to the elements.
- Frequently operates gardening and farm equipment in a safe manner
- Occasionally operates motorized and non-motorized vehicles in a safe manner (i.e.: Golf
- Carts, ATV’s, Tractors, Trucks with trailers, Bicycles, etc…)
- Communicate effectively in English and or Spanish.
- Move/Transport up to 75lbs
- Distinguish between different plant types
- Ability to work long hours during peak season
- Ability to be Flexible with department needs
- Punctual and Reliable
- Ability to work under deadlines
- Ability to take direction
- Ability to work in a team oriented environment
